City of Byron provides a variety of services

Water


The Water Department is responsible for the treating and distributing potable water for the resident of Byron. This includes:

  • Operation and treatment of City water (1.3 million gallon per day capacity)
  • Reading approximately 5,000 water meters monthly
  • Maintenance and repair of water tanks, water mains, and fire hydrants

The City water system is expanding rapidly to provide better service and to accommodate growth. City crews work with property owners, builders and developers to resolve service issues and ensure that new construction complies with City standards.

Wastewater


The City’s sanitary sewage collection system serves the areas within the City limits. The primary responsibility of the Wastewater Department is constructing sewer lines, maintaining and repairing the collection system, installing connection to the system, and collecting wastewater and transporting it to the wastewater treatment oxidation pond.

The utility is currently embarked on a $7 million expansion and upgrade of Byron’s wastewater treatment facility to meet the enhances water quality standards and replace obsolete equipment to keep up with a growing customer base.

Streets


The City currently maintains approximately 55 miles of paved streets. To report a problem with a street including bad pot holes, chipping, cracking, or drainage problems please call 478-956-4483.

Sanitation


The City contracts all garbage pickup with Sullivan Environmental. If you need to set up service and live in the City limits please call Byron City Hall at 478-956-3600. If you have a problem with your current trash collection service please call Sullivan Environmental at 478-987-1411.
